Broken Clutch Puts End to Day in the Dirt
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DUQUOIN, I.L. – After coming off a strong run a few weeks before in Springfield, the Lafferty team was excited about going to DuQuoin for the second dirt race in the ARCA Remax schedule. "I was nervous, because I was warned that DuQuoin was harder to drive," Chris Lafferty said. After a fresh set of tires, Chris had the comfort he needed to go fast. "I was just being easy with the car, it had a lot more in it in practice but I was just being conservative."
For qualifying, it was a different story as the Lafferty Motorsports crew chief persuaded Chris to push his limits. "I watched some of the fast guys in qualifying and told myself that I was going to drive in as deep as they did." Chris did, he drove the car as deep as he could but got loose coming off of turn two which ruined his qualifying run. "Off of (turn) two, I got in it and the car pushed and when I pushed back the car snapped loose. I had to do everything but stop completely to get the car back." Turn two was hectic for many, as multiple cars got loose and a few even crashed. The Lafferty team started the race in 29th when the green flag dropped and fought up to 23rd when the clutch finally gave out; leading the team to a disappointing 32nd place finish. "I feel confident that we had a top 20 car, but we could not show it," states Chris.
